How this overview works: it sums up verified facts about the game and how critics received it. ParryStack assigns no score of its own.
What it is
Marvel's Wolverine is a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure game by Insomniac Games, published by Sony Interactive Entertainment on 15 September 2026 for PS5. It is rated M by the ESRB and is not set in an open world. Logan, who has lost much of his memory, rejoins his former unit Team X three years after leaving it, as Bolivar Trask's Reavers hunt mutants.
Gameplay
Combat uses Logan's claws, a Rage meter built by attacks, parries and kills, and a Healing Factor that Rage can activate through a Last Stand. Techniques such as Tornado Spin and Bull Rush, Critical Strikes (also together with allies like Jean Grey), stealth ambushes and set pieces such as a highway chase add variety. Insomniac lists a full set of accessibility options for cognitive, visual, auditory and motor needs.
How critics received it
Metacritic lists 75 out of 100 for PS5 from 147 reviews, and 66% of critics on OpenCritic recommend it. Game Informer (8.5/10), Push Square (8/10) and Shacknews (8/10) praised the fast, brutal combat and the visuals. IGN (6/10) and GameSpot (6/10) found the combat wears thin or lacks challenge, and The Guardian, GamesRadar+, Eurogamer and VGC (all 3/5) criticised the story and dated mission design. Wikipedia notes reception was weaker than Insomniac's previous games.
Sales
Alinea Analytics estimated about 1.9 million copies sold in the first three days, and Ampere Analysis about 2.16 million in September 2026. These are analyst estimates, not figures from Sony.
Verdict
Critics saw it as a good-looking, violent and well-acted Wolverine game that does not reach the level of Insomniac's Spider-Man games. It is PS5-only.
