After character creation, complete the boot-camp tutorial on Super Earth to learn the core loop: dive into a mission, call Stratagems, complete objectives, and extract. Back aboard your Destroyer, explore the ship terminals: the Armory lets you swap primary and secondary weapons and grenades; the Stratagems console assigns up to four Stratagems to your loadout; the Warbond kiosk spends Medals to unlock new weapons and armor. Familiarise yourself with the Mission Terminal globe — it shows active Major Orders, available sectors, and which faction (Terminids or Automatons) currently needs reinforcement. Collect your starting Requisition Slips and spend them on a basic Eagle airstrike and an Orbital Precision Strike before your first real drop.
Start on Difficulty 1 (Trivial) to practice calling Stratagems under pressure without dying repeatedly. Missions at low difficulty include Eradicate (kill a quota of enemies), Blitz (destroy Terminid eggs or Automaton Fabricators quickly), and simple Retrieve Essential Personnel tasks. Learn the Stratagem input sequences — they are entered as directional commands on the left stick or arrow keys and failing mid-sequence wastes the cooldown. Practice the Eagle Airstrike, Orbital Precision Strike, and a Resupply Stratagem. At Difficulty 3–4 you will start encountering your first Elites, so master repositioning and never stand still in a firefight.
Warbonds are progression passes purchased with Medals earned from missions and Super Credits found in map POIs. The default Helldivers Mobilize Warbond and the Steeled Veterans Warbond contain several essential early weapons: the AR-23 Liberator assault rifle, the P-2 Peacemaker pistol, and the SG-225 Breaker shotgun. Prioritise unlocking the SG-225 Breaker early — it excels against Terminid hordes at close range. Super Credits, the premium currency, can be found for free inside map bunkers and interest points, so explore between objectives. Medals also unlock armor perks that provide passive bonuses like extra grenade capacity or faster Stratagem cooldowns.
Stratagems define your combat effectiveness at higher difficulties. Eagle Stratagems (Eagle Airstrike, Eagle 500kg Bomb, Eagle Cluster Bomb) have short cooldowns and reset after returning to the Destroyer via Reinforce. Orbital Stratagems (Orbital Precision Strike, Orbital Laser, Orbital Railcannon Strike) have longer cooldowns but exceptional single-target damage. Support Weapon Stratagems — Recoilless Rifle, Railgun, Quasar Cannon, and Autocannon — are backpack-sized weapons that drop via beacon. The Recoilless Rifle is the gold standard for killing Bile Titans and Chargers; the Railgun in Unsafe Mode punches through armored limbs efficiently. Always bring at least one anti-armor Stratagem per squad member on Difficulty 5 and above.
Terminid planets task squads with destroying Shrieker Nests, Bile Titan lairs, Terminid egg clutches, and the massive hive structures called Bug Holes. Closing Bug Holes with a grenade (toss one inside) is the single most effective crowd-control action available — fewer holes means fewer patrol spawns. Missions like Eradicate require holding a point against escalating Terminid waves while a counter ticks up. Spread out to avoid chain deaths but stay within revive range of teammates. Medium Terminids like Hive Guards have armored heads but vulnerable abdomens; Bile Spewers have armored fronts but unarmored undersides. Prioritise side objectives (SAM sites, radar stations) before the main goal to earn bonus Medals.
Automaton planets require a different approach: Bots use ranged weapons, Devastators fire salvos, and Hulks close distance aggressively. Destroying Automaton Fabricators (large factory structures) permanently reduces patrol frequency — use a grenade in the exhaust vent on the side or drop a Precision Strike directly on top. Mission types include Sabotage Supply Lines (destroy fuel silos), Activate E-710 Pumping Station (interact with terminals under fire), and Upload Escape Pod Data. Bring a Railgun or Quasar Cannon to deal with Hulks and shield-carrying Devastators. Never group up on bot missions — rocket Devastators will chain-kill clustered squads instantly. Smoke grenades provide essential cover for interacting with terminals.
Difficulty 7 (Suicide Mission) through Difficulty 10 (Helldive) demand coordinated four-player squads with specialized loadout roles: one anti-armor specialist with a Recoilless Rifle or Quasar Cannon, one crowd-control provider with an Autocannon or Gatling Sentry, and two flexible operators covering objectives. Major Orders issued by Super Earth High Command assign the entire player base to attack or defend specific sectors within a timer — completing Major Orders earns bonus Medals for all participants. At Helldive, every patrol is aggressive, Bile Titans and Factory Striders spawn frequently, and mission timers are tight. Rotate Stratagem assignments so every teammate covers a gap in anti-armor or anti-air capability.
The true endgame of Helldivers 2 is the persistent Galactic War: every mission completed on a contested planet contributes Liberation percentage, and losing a planet means Terminids or Automatons capture territory. Full Operations (chains of three linked missions on the same planet) award the best Requisition and Medal payouts. Farm Super Credits from POI bunkers on lower-difficulty maps to unlock premium Warbonds without spending real money. Keep your ship upgrades progressing via the Acquisitions terminal — Module upgrades improve Stratagem call-in speed, Eagle charge count, and Orbital weapon damage. Coordinate with the community around Major Orders, as collective global effort determines whether Super Earth expands its territory or faces a Terminid Breach.
⚔️ Boss Guides
Bile Titan
Attack Patterns
The Bile Titan is the largest Terminid enemy, a colossal six-legged creature that rears up to spew corrosive acid pools over a wide area. It stomps with legs that one-shot Helldivers, and its bile spray covers large ground sections that linger as hazardous puddles. It will pursue targets relentlessly but can be outpaced by sprinting Helldivers. At close range, it performs a downward crush that is nearly impossible to dodge in cramped terrain.
Strategy
Target the glowing green sacs on the underbelly with a Recoilless Rifle or Quasar Cannon — two to three direct hits rupture the sacs, dramatically reducing its health pool and stripping its bile attack entirely. If it rears to spit, aim at the open mouth for bonus damage. Kite it around large rocks or structures to interrupt its charge path. An Orbital Precision Strike or Eagle 500kg Bomb placed directly under it is a reliable one-shot kill when teammates distract it. Never cluster near it — a single stomp wipes grouped squads.
Charger
Attack Patterns
The Charger is a heavily armored Terminid that builds speed across open ground and delivers a devastating ram attack capable of instantly killing any Helldiver it connects with. Its frontal carapace is nearly impervious to standard ballistics. After a charge, it takes a brief moment to turn, exposing its unarmored abdomen. It also performs short lunge swipes at close range and will not disengage once it has locked onto a target.
Strategy
Bait the charge by standing in open ground, then side-dodge at the last moment — the Charger will overshoot and expose its soft abdomen for two to three seconds. Follow up immediately with a Recoilless Rifle shot or a burst from the Autocannon to the abdomen. Thermite Grenades stuck anywhere on its body ignore armor and burn through its health rapidly. Setting it on fire with an Incendiary Stratagem disrupts its charge path. On bot-free Terminid missions, two teammates can trade aggro while a third positions for clean abdomen shots.
Factory Strider
Attack Patterns
The Factory Strider is the Automaton faction’s most powerful walker, a massive bipedal war machine that continuously spawns Automaton Troopers from a hatch on its belly. It fires a devastating chin-mounted laser cannon that sweeps across terrain, and its top-mounted autocannons engage aerial targets and distant Helldivers. Destroying a Factory Strider is frequently a prerequisite for completing certain high-value Automaton objectives.
Strategy
The red sensor eye on its head is a critical weak point — a direct Recoilless Rifle or Quasar Cannon hit to the eye deals massive damage. The belly undercarriage is medium-armored and can be worked down with sustained Autocannon fire from a flanking angle. Destroying the leg joints immobilizes it, preventing it from repositioning while your team focuses on the belly. An Orbital Railcannon Strike or Eagle 500kg Bomb dropped on top is the fastest single-call solution. Never stand directly in front — the chin laser one-shots Helldivers at any range.
Hulk
Attack Patterns
The Hulk is the Automaton faction’s elite heavy walker, a bipedal mech armed with a flamethrower on one arm and a minigun on the other. The flamethrower variant closes distance aggressively and engulfs an area in persistent fire; the Scorcher variant stays at range and uses rocket salvos. Hulks have near-impenetrable frontal armor and resist most standard weapons. They are fast for their size and will chase Helldivers across the entire map once aggro is established.
Strategy
The red eye sensor on the faceplate is the most reliable weak point — two to three Railgun shots in Unsafe Mode directly to the eye will destroy a Hulk. Alternatively, flank to the rear and target the heat vent exhaust with any armor-piercing weapon. One Thermite Grenade stuck anywhere on the Hulk’s body kills it regardless of where it lands, making this the simplest counter. If caught in the open, an Orbital Railcannon Strike locks onto the nearest heavy and one-shots the Hulk automatically. Maintain distance from the flamethrower variant at all times.
Bile Spewer
Attack Patterns
The Bile Spewer is a medium-class Terminid that launches volleys of corrosive bile in arcing trajectories, blanketing an area with acid pools that deal sustained damage over time. It also performs a short-range melee swipe with its frontal legs. Unlike the Charger it does not charge, but its bile barrage can saturate an area rapidly, forcing Helldivers to constantly relocate. Nursing Spewers are a larger variant with increased bile volume and health.
Strategy
Circle around the Bile Spewer to approach from the side or rear, exposing the unarmored abdomen to direct fire. The Grenade Pistol is highly effective at dealing damage to the abdomen at close to medium range. Alternatively, an Eagle Cluster Bomb dropped on a group of Spewers clears them efficiently. Avoid engaging Bile Spewers head-on — the frontal carapace deflects most small-arms fire. When multiple Spewers are present, prioritize the nearest one and break line of sight behind terrain to dodge bile arcs. Fire-based Stratagems such as the Incendiary Breaker or Napalm Strike prevent them from repositioning.
