This guide follows the main story missions in the order listed by PowerPyx, with plot beats checked against Wikipedia, plus short boss notes. It is a scope-limited overview rather than a full step-by-step walkthrough, and boss notes are limited to what reference pages state. Last checked 12 October 2026.
After Faye's funeral rites, Kratos is confronted outside his home by a stranger who is later revealed to be Baldur. This opening fight introduces the Leviathan Axe, blocking and parrying.
Kratos and Atreus set out to scatter Faye's ashes from the highest peak. Along the way you learn axe throw and recall, Atreus's bow and Spartan Rage, and reach the Lake of Nine hub. Side areas open up as the story continues.
The next story missions in order are The Light of Alfheim, Inside the Mountain and A New Destination. This guide does not cover their puzzles, combat encounters or collectibles.
The brothers Magni and Modi, sons of Thor, track Kratos and Atreus to Thamur's Corpse. Kratos kills Magni; Modi flees but later ambushes the group again.
Kratos returns home to unearth his old weapons, the Blades of Chaos. Freya then sends him to Helheim to retrieve the heart of a troll; the frost-based Leviathan Axe is useless in the icy realm, so the Blades are needed. This mission is titled Escape from Helheim in the walkthrough listing.
Baldur eventually attempts to strangle Freya, and Kratos kills him. The story then moves on to Jötunheim, where the pair find an abandoned temple with a mural depicting their adventures, ending with Mother's Ashes and The Journey Home.
Valkyries appear as optional secret boss battles across the six playable locations; Göndul in Muspelheim is one of them. Guides report that Sigrún, the ninth Valkyrie, is fought at the Council of Valkyries once the other eight have been beaten.
⚔️ Boss Guides
The Stranger (Baldur) — first encounter
Overview
An early scripted fight outside Kratos's home against a stranger, revealed later to be Baldur. It teaches blocking, parrying and the Leviathan Axe combat.
Strategy
Block and parry to learn timings. This fight is a tutorial and is not a damage race.
Magni and Modi
Overview
Fought in the mission The Magic Chisel at Thamur's Corpse. Magni wields a great sword imbued with thunder and Modi wields a shield and mace; the two take turns against Kratos and Atreus. Blocking is important against Modi.
Outcome
Kratos kills Magni, and Modi flees but later ambushes the group again.
Dauði Kaupmaðr (first troll boss)
Overview
Guides describe this fire troll as the first boss enemy you meet in Midgard. Its stone pillar slam can briefly stun Kratos.
Strategy
Keep your distance, let Atreus fire arrows, and use axe throws and recalls.
Baldur (final confrontation)
Overview
After Baldur tries to strangle Freya, Kratos kills him, bringing Fimbulwinter early according to Wikipedia. The fight is a late story encounter; use both weapons and Spartan Rage as needed.
Sigrún, Queen of the Valkyries (optional)
Overview
Guides describe Sigrún as the ninth and final Valkyrie, available only after the other eight are beaten; their heads are taken to the Council of Valkyries to trigger the fight. Reports say she uses the moves of the earlier Valkyries, so remember how those fights played out.
