After the prologue, Kratos is confronted by The Stranger (Baldur) outside his home. This early "boss" teaches the Leviathan Axe combat and block/parry. He is invulnerable to lasting damage — survive the scripted brawl.
Begin the journey to scatter Faye's ashes from the highest peak. Learn axe throw-recall, Atreus's arrows, and Spartan Rage. Open the first Realm Tear and Nornir chests for upgrades.
The waters lower to reveal the Lake of Nine hub. Wake the World Serpent. Branch out to optional realms (Tyr's Temple) and the Witch's house. Upgrade the axe and Atreus's talents as you go.
Ascend the Mountain via the mines. The brothers Magni and Modi ambush you — first as a duo (focus Magni), then Modi alone later after he flees. These are major combat checks.
Travel to Alfheim to restore the Bifröst. Navigate the light/dark elf war, solve the light-crystal puzzles, and claim the Light of Alfheim to power realm travel.
Forge the path to Helheim (you need a special weapon enchantment from Sindri/Brok). Confront the truth about Baldur's curse. Helheim's undead enemies are weak to the Blades of Chaos once you reclaim them.
Return to climb the Mountain. The story escalates with revelations about Atreus's heritage (Loki). Push through tougher Revenant and Ogre encounters to the peak.
The finale is a multi-stage fight against Baldur across falling terrain and shifting arenas. Exploit his eventual loss of invulnerability. Use Atreus, Spartan Rage, and runic attacks. Then reach Jötunheim to scatter the ashes.
The optional endgame challenge: hunt the eight Valkyries across the realms, then face their queen Sigrun at Council of Valkyries — the hardest fight in the game, combining every Valkyrie's moveset.
⚔️ Boss Guides
The Stranger (Baldur) — First Encounter
Patterns
Fast unarmed flurries and grapple throws. He cannot be permanently hurt (his curse makes him invulnerable to pain).
Strategy
Block and parry his combos, land axe hits to progress the scripted brawl. Watch for the red-ring unblockable grabs — dodge those. The fight is about survival and learning parry timing.
Magni and Modi
Patterns
Two Aesir gods attack together — Magni with a greatsword (telegraphed heavy swings) and Modi flanking. Being double-teamed is the danger.
Strategy
Focus Magni down first to make it a 1v1. Use Atreus's arrows to stun Modi while you commit to Magni. Parry Magni's blue-flash attacks, dodge the red-ring unblockables. Save Spartan Rage for when you're surrounded. Modi flees and is fought again later, weaker.
Dauði Kaupmaðr (Soul Devourer / Ogres)
Patterns
Ogres charge, body-slam, and grab. They appear throughout as mini-bosses.
Strategy
Stagger the Ogre, then have Atreus fire Shock Arrows to let Kratos mount and ride it — turning it into a temporary weapon against other enemies. Dodge the overhead slam and punish the recovery.
Baldur (Final Boss)
Phase 1
Fast hand-to-hand combos and grapples while still invulnerable to lasting harm. Parry and chip.
Phase 2-3
The arena collapses through realms. Once his curse breaks (story beat), he takes real damage. He gains fire and ice infusions — match with the opposite element (Blades of Chaos vs his ice, Leviathan Axe vs his fire). Dodge red-ring grabs, parry blue attacks, and burn Spartan Rage when cornered.
Valkyrie (general)
Patterns
Each Valkyrie shares a pool of moves: a red-ring unblockable wing-spin (dodge twice), a flight-and-dive (dodge sideways), scythe combos, and a grab that must be evaded. Some add ice, poison, or shockwaves.
Strategy
Learn to identify each telegraph by color/animation. Never greed — land 2-3 hits then reset. Bring a resurrection stone and high-tier armor. Atreus arrows help break their flight attacks.
Sigrun, Queen of the Valkyries (hardest)
Patterns
Sigrun combines every other Valkyrie's moveset — the wing-spin, dive-bomb, ice slam, poison, and a near-unavoidable healing move you must interrupt or out-damage.
Strategy
This is the ultimate test. Memorize her telegraph colors, dodge the wing-spin (red) twice, block/parse the meleed combos, and burst her when she's grounded. Interrupt her heal with a thrown axe or runic. Patience over aggression — one mistake chains into death. Max out armor and bring resurrection stones.
