Senua's Saga: Hellblade II is a cinematic action-adventure that continues the story of Senua, a Pictish warrior living with psychosis, as she travels to Viking-age Iceland to confront the slavers who raided her homeland. Like its predecessor, it is a tightly authored, linear experience built around atmosphere, binaural "Permadeath"-tinged audio, and one of the most technically stunning presentations in the medium.
Ninja Theory developed the game in close consultation with mental-health professionals and people with lived experience of psychosis, and Senua's condition is woven into the moment-to-moment design through the Furies — the voices in her head that comment, warn, doubt, and encourage. Wearing headphones is essential; the binaural mix places those voices all around you.
This is a short, deliberately paced journey (roughly 6-8 hours) that prioritizes immersion over mechanical depth. Combat is brutal, intimate, and one-on-one; traversal and environmental puzzles built around perspective and rune-matching break up the cinematic set pieces. It is less a "game" in the traditional sense than an interactive dark fable — and on those terms it is extraordinary.
The Furies — the voices of Senua's psychosis — surround you in 3D sound. Headphones transform the experience and even aid in combat.
Combat is deliberate and one-on-one. Each enemy is a weighty, cinematic duel of dodges, parries, and brutal finishers.
Captured with photogrammetry and rendered in UE5, the volcanic landscapes are among the most beautiful environments in gaming.
Built with mental-health experts, Senua's psychosis is represented with rare care and woven into the core design.
