Hogwarts Legacy is the open-world action RPG that Harry Potter fans have dreamed of for decades — a chance to attend Hogwarts as your own character, learn spells in class, explore the iconic castle room by room, and step into a fully realized Wizarding World set in the 1800s, a century before the events of the books. Avalanche Software delivered the most faithful and lovingly detailed recreation of J.K. Rowling's world ever put to game.
The core gameplay loop combines spell-based combat (weaving offensive spells like Incendio and the optional Unforgivable Curses with utility spells such as Accio and Levioso), open-world exploration across Hogwarts grounds, Hogsmeade, and the surrounding Scottish Highlands, and a progression system built around gear upgrades and spell mastery. Each house (Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff) offers a unique common room and one exclusive quest.
Beyond the main story — which involves ancient magic accessible only to your character and a goblin rebellion — Hogwarts Legacy provides a large amount of optional content: Merlin Trials, Field Guide pages, Astronomy Tables, flying challenges, Vivarium creature tending, and companion questlines.
