Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second chapter of Square Enix's ambitious FF7 remake trilogy and one of the most ambitious RPGs ever made. Picking up immediately after Remake's events, Rebirth takes Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, and Cid beyond Midgar for the first time — onto a vast, six-region open world spanning jungles, deserts, mountain ranges, coastlines, and ancient ruins, each region as large as some games' entire maps.
The combat system evolves Remake's ATB foundation with Synergy Abilities — free abilities triggered by pairing specific characters — and deeper character-specific mechanics. The bond system tracks your relationship with each party member through conversation choices, Bond activities, and optional combat, unlocking character-specific scenes and combat bonuses that reward investment in each relationship.
Rebirth is also a technical showcase. The dynamic OST (over 400 tracks, including multiple arrangements of classic FF7 music that shift based on gameplay context), the production quality of the cutscenes, and the sheer volume of voice-acted dialogue push production values to heights that justify the PS5 exclusivity. It is the most expensive-feeling JRPG ever made.
Free abilities triggered by specific character pairings — Cloud and Aerith, Tifa and Barret, and others create unique team-up attacks that do not consume ATB, rewarding party switching.
Grasslands, Junon, Corel, Gongaga, Cosmo Canyon, and Nibel — six enormous regions each with unique fauna, Intel objectives, minigames, and side content.
One of gaming's greatest musical achievements — over 400 tracks with dynamic arrangements that shift based on exploration, combat intensity, and story context.
Build relationships with each party member through conversation choices and Bond activities. Higher bonds unlock unique scenes and passive combat bonuses during battle.
