Grand Theft Auto V is an open-world action game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It was released on 17 September 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One (18 November 2014), Windows (14 April 2015) and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S (15 March 2022). According to Wikipedia it has shipped over 230 million copies, making it the second-best-selling video game of all time. It is set in the fictional state of San Andreas, around the city of Los Santos (based on Los Angeles) and Blaine County, and follows three playable protagonists: Michael De Santa, Trevor Philips and Franklin Clinton.
You can switch between the three characters in the open world, and missions are built around that: heists are planned with a crew and approach choices, and some missions have you control different characters during the same job. Each character has a special ability: Michael enters bullet time in combat, Franklin slows time while driving, and Trevor deals twice as much damage and takes half as much damage. The story centres on heists, with the final heist raiding the Union Depository.
GTA Online launched on 1 October 2013, two weeks after the main game, and has been updated with free content since (for example the Diamond Casino Heist and the Cayo Perico Heist). Wikipedia notes that planned single-player DLC was cancelled so the team could focus on GTA Online and Red Dead Redemption 2, so there is no story DLC.
