🗺️ Main Story Walkthrough

Tick off each step as you go — your progress saves locally, no account needed.

Step 1 of 9
On Strange Shores: Fort Northreach and Dawnshore Arrival

You arrive on the shores of the Living Lands as an envoy of the Aedyr Empire, tasked with investigating the spreading Dreamscourge plague. Work through Fort Northreach as a tutorial, learning the dual-wield, spell-slinging, and grimoire mechanics that define combat. Your first real challenge is the infected commander Steadman Ralke — defeat him to open the road into Dawnshore proper. Loot every chest in the fort before departing; you will find early Exceptional-quality weapons here that outclass anything the first vendors sell.

Step 2 of 9
Message from Afar: Rescuing the Ambassador

The central Dawnshore quest sends you deep into Strangleroot Forest to rescue the Aedyr Ambassador from Dreamscourge-infected wildlife, including a Dreamthrall Elder Brown Bear that guards the road. Unlock Kai as a companion early in this region — his shield and taunt abilities make him the ideal tank for the rest of the game. Before turning in this quest, explore the surrounding cave systems for Adra Pillars that begin teaching you about Sapadal, the Living Lands' strange god-voice. The decision you make about the Ambassador's fate carries minor diplomatic consequences in Act 4.

Step 3 of 9
An Untimely End: Investigating Your Own Murder

A sinister twist: you discover evidence that you were assassinated and somehow survived. The quest chains through Paradis, Dawnshore's main city hub, as you track the assassin Thalla the Taskmaster. Spend time in Paradis speaking to every vendor and faction NPC — this is the best point to stock up on grimoire scrolls, upgrade materials, and the rare Springberry consumables that clear poison. The quest culminates in a boss fight and a reveal about Inquisitor Lodwyn's overarching agenda. Choosing to expose the conspiracy to the local council now opens unique dialogue options in the endgame.

Step 4 of 9
The Animancy Method: Chasing the Dreamscourge

Head to the Emerald Stair region to gather intelligence on the Dreamscourge plague from Animancy researchers in the city of Fior mes Iverno. You need an Adragan Heart to power their research device, which means dealing with the Delemgan Queen in her grove — or sneaking past her if you avoid killing any sporelings on the way. The quest reveals that the Living Lands itself is sentient through the Adra network. Pick up the Phantasmal Focus unique item from the research lab, as it significantly boosts your Essence regeneration during the chapters ahead.

Step 5 of 9
Ancient Soil: Finding Sapadal and the Garden

Travel deeper into Emerald Stair to locate the mythical Garden at the heart of the Living Lands. You face Cylia, a large infected sporeling with AoE poison attacks, at the Adra Pillar near Naku Tedek — clear the accompanying Xaurip Shaman first to prevent heal-buff cycling. The real revelation here is your first direct conversation with Sapadal through the Adra network; your dialogue choices begin shaping your Godlike abilities. Obtain the Thorn of Sapadal unique weapon from the pillar chamber and upgrade it at the nearest Enchanting Workbench before moving on to Shatterscarp.

Step 6 of 9
A Path to the Garden and Face Your Fears: Shatterscarp Crossing

Shatterscarp is a hostile, elevated plateau filled with Maegfolcs and Dreamthralls. The twin quests here push you toward the Garden's location while confronting the psychological scars your character carries from the Dreamscourge investigation. Marius becomes available as a companion during this region — respec his skill tree to prioritize Binding Roots and Grasping Roots for crowd control, which makes the dense enemy encounters in this area far more manageable. The trio of Ekiden Spirits in a side arena here are optional but reward one of the best amulets in the game if defeated.

Step 7 of 9
Shadows of the Past and Our Dreams Divide Us Still: Galawain's Tusks

The penultimate region is Galawain's Tusks, a jungle-savanna area where the game's largest enemy encounters occur. Shadows of the Past forces confrontations with your character's past allegiances, while Our Dreams Divide Us Still is the point of no return — complete every side quest and companion quest before triggering the latter. The Sporeking and Mater Mare are optional bosses here worth defeating for unique crafting components. Stock at least twelve healing potions and upgrade both your main weapon and offhand to Legendary quality before pushing into the Garden.

Step 8 of 9
The Heart of the Living Lands: The Garden

You finally enter the Garden, a surreal space where the Dreamscourge originates. This section delivers the game's major narrative revelations about your Godlike nature and Sapadal's true intentions. Expect back-to-back elite encounters with Pristine Maegfolcs and Dreamthrall champions; use the Godlike ability unlocked from your Adra Pillar conversations to chain stagger these enemies efficiently. The optional quest Pulling Back the Veil runs concurrently here and awards a powerful Godlike passive upgrade — do not skip it.

Step 9 of 9
The Siege of Paradis: Final Confrontation with Inquisitor Lodwyn

The final quest returns you to Dawnshore for a three-phase battle against Inquisitor Lodwyn. Depending on your choices throughout the game, you may have allies fighting alongside you during the assault. Lodwyn heals to full health at the start of Phase 2 and shifts to ranged attacks backed by Pristine Maegfolc summons; switch to your strongest bow or arquebus the moment she kneels to recharge. Phase 3 combines her melee and range attacks simultaneously — keep moving at all times and use your most powerful Essence-consuming spells during the brief windows after her summons are down.

⚔️ Boss Guides

⚔️

Thalla the Taskmaster

Weakness
Slow movement; highly vulnerable to Frost accumulation and root crowd control
Recommended Gear
Frost-damage weapon or spells; Tanglefoot or Binding Roots (Marius); Kai for tanking

Attack Patterns

Thalla is a hulking brute found in Paradis during the An Untimely End quest. His primary attacks are a boulder lob with a generous arcing telegraph, two ground-slam AoE strikes that leave glowing red warning circles, and a slow overhead club swing with significant reach. He has no rapid dash or gap-closer, making him predictable at range. He does not summon allies.

Strategy

Position Kai directly in front of Thalla to absorb aggression while you stay at mid-range. Cast Tanglefoot or have Marius use Binding Roots to immobilize Thalla as soon as combat begins — Frost status stacks fast while he is rooted and drastically slows his already lethargic moveset. After each ground slam there is a two-second recovery window: land two to three charged heavy attacks or a full spell rotation before retreating. Avoid standing behind him when he raises his club overhead, as the shockwave AoE extends further than the animation suggests.

⚔️

Cylia

Weakness
Low HP pool; weak to Fire; poison and Frost resistance means neutral damage types work best
Recommended Gear
Fire-damage grimoire or weapon; clear minions first with AoE spell; Exceptional gear minimum

Attack Patterns

Cylia is an oversized infected Sporeling encountered at the Adra Pillar in Emerald Stair during Ancient Soil. It fights alongside a Delemgan Scourge and a Xaurip Shaman support caster. Cylia itself uses a wall slam, a small-area poison explosion centered on its body, and arcing poison-volley projectiles. It can also briefly buff nearby allies with regeneration, though this is slow to activate. The Shaman is the more dangerous presence, continuously healing the group.

Strategy

Eliminate the Xaurip Shaman before engaging Cylia directly — the Shaman's heal-cycling can make the fight drag on far longer than necessary. Once the Shaman is down, Cylia is straightforward: stay outside its melee range to avoid the body explosion, dodge the telegraphed poison arcs, and punish its recovery after the wall slam with a heavy combo. Fire-damage spells like Red Tides deal bonus damage and are not resisted. The whole fight can be skipped on a pacifist playthrough by not killing any sporelings on the path to Cylia's grove.

⚔️

Delemgan Queen

Weakness
Vulnerable to concentrated burst damage during Phase 2 ground phase; Marius CC breaks her combos
Recommended Gear
Marius with Grasping Roots + Constricting Roots upgrades; Last Light of Day weapon (Fire + healing); Exceptional armor

Attack Patterns

The Delemgan Queen is encountered during The Animancy Method quest in Emerald Stair. She is a towering root-body creature that fights from range with extending limb swipes and an overhead Double Arm Smash that covers a wide AoE marked in red before impact. She summons waves of Delemgans, sporelings, and bears throughout the fight, with Phase 2 beginning when she descends to fight directly alongside her minions. The minion pressure is the fight's real difficulty spike.

Strategy

Before the fight, respec Marius to have Binding Roots with both the Grasping Roots and Constricting Roots upgrades — this gives you AoE crowd control that neutralizes the minion waves. In Phase 1, focus all damage on clearing minions the instant they spawn so they never overwhelm you. In Phase 2, use Constricting Roots on the Queen herself to interrupt her arm-slam combo, then unload with Last Light of Day for Fire damage plus self-healing sustain. You can skip this fight entirely by approaching without harming any sporelings on the path to her grove.

⚔️

Ekiden Spirits (Trio)

Weakness
Isolate the healer; ranged attacks keep pressure on all three without clustering
Recommended Gear
Ranged weapon or bow; AoE frost spell for grouping; high Deflection stat gear

Attack Patterns

The Ekiden Spirits are an optional trio encounter in Shatterscarp. One spirit casts Shield spells to protect its companions, one deals melee damage, and the third heals both of them continuously. Fighting them together is a war of attrition — the healer undoes damage faster than most builds can output in the early Shatterscarp phase. They use moderate-damage arcane projectiles and physical slams but pose a greater strategic challenge than a raw mechanical one.

Strategy

Target the healer with your highest burst-damage skill first — a fully charged heavy attack followed by a Spell Surge will kill it in one exchange on Normal difficulty. Once the healer is gone, the shielder loses its value and becomes your second target. Use an AoE frost spell to group the remaining two during the approach and keep applying Frost accumulation to slow their reaction time. Stay mobile throughout; standing still invites the melee spirit to chain-attack you while the shielder buffs it. The trio drops a unique amulet that grants Deflection to your entire party on pickup.

⚔️

Inquisitor Lodwyn

Weakness
Phase 2 ranged form is vulnerable to firearms and bow attacks; Maegfolc summons die quickly to AoE
Recommended Gear
Mixed build: melee weapon + arquebus or bow; healing consumables x12 minimum; both Godlike abilities unlocked

Attack Patterns

Lodwyn is the final boss of Avowed, fought during The Siege of Paradis. Phase 1 is a melee duel where she uses sword combos, a shield-bash interrupt, and a charge attack. At 50% health she kneels, heals to full, and enters Phase 2 — switching to ranged fireballs and rock-drop barrages from distance while summoning two Pristine Maegfolcs. Phase 3 begins after her summons die and combines both Phase 1 and Phase 2 attack sets without any transition downtime.

Strategy

In Phase 1, bait her shield-bash by stepping into melee range and immediately dodging backward — the recovery window is your best damage opportunity. Swap to arquebus or bow the moment Phase 2 triggers; Lodwyn is stationary relative to her Phase 1 mobility and her ranged attacks have readable trajectories. Burn down the two Maegfolcs as quickly as possible using AoE spells before they can flank you, then shift attention back to Lodwyn. In Phase 3, keep moving in wide circles to avoid her simultaneous ranged and melee patterns, and spend your Godlike ability charges freely since this is the end of the game.
