🗺️ Main Story Walkthrough

Tick off each step as you go — your progress saves locally, no account needed.

Step 1 of 8
Prologue: Thieves in Anbar

You begin as Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street thief in the rural district of Anbar outside Baghdad, circa 861 CE. Complete the tutorial parkour sequences and help your friend Nehal steal provisions. This opening section teaches Eagle Vision, pickpocketing, and the basic social stealth tools you will rely on throughout the game. Before leaving Anbar, loot every chest you can find — you will not return here, and the early Dirham are useful for purchasing upgrade materials in Baghdad.

Step 2 of 8
Joining the Hidden Ones: The Wilderness and Alamut

After a botched theft goes violently wrong, Basim is brought to Alamut, the Hidden Ones fortress, by master assassin Roshan. You spend a chapter training under her guidance — this is where the core mechanics of the assassination toolkit are introduced, including throwing knives, smoke bombs, and the hidden blade. Complete all of Roshan's training challenges to unlock extra tool capacity before heading to Baghdad. The optional test of skill parkour course rewards a rare trinket worth selling.

Step 3 of 8
Arrival in Baghdad: Finding the Bureau

Basim arrives in the Abbasid capital and must locate the Hidden Ones bureau in the Karkh district. Use Eagle Vision frequently to spot informants on rooftops who will mark points of interest on your map. Baghdad is divided into several guarded districts — Karkh, Sharqiyah, and the Round City — each with its own notoriety level. Spend time bribing town criers and tearing down wanted posters early so you can move freely while investigating your first Order targets.

Step 4 of 8
Karkh Investigation: The Master Thief and the Harbor Blockade

Your first major investigation arc tasks you with uncovering three Order members in Karkh. You must assassinate Javed, who commands a harbor blockade strangling merchant traffic, and the tax extortionist Suhail inside the Baghdad Bazaar. Both targets reward scouting their locations first with your eagle Enkidu before committing to an approach. The Karkh arc concludes with attending the grand auction to identify Ning, the Chinese merchant and Order leader, whose manor stronghold is the hardest stealth challenge in this district.

Step 5 of 8
Sharqiyah Investigation: The Zanj Uprising

Cross the Tigris into Sharqiyah and align with the Zanj Rebellion to root out Order influence over the Abbasid military. You must eliminate execution captain Dogan bin Arslan, then intelligence officers Nadir ibn Havid and Jasoor ibn Basil in sequence. Joining the Zanj rebels unlocks a unique shortcut — rebel fighters will create diversions for you if you speak to their leaders first, allowing clean air-assassination approaches on heavily guarded military targets. The district leader Wasif al-Turk is revealed after clearing his subordinates.

Step 6 of 8
Harbiyah Investigation: The Wilderness Contacts

The Harbiyah bureau covers Baghdad's northern district and the surrounding desert roads. Your targets here include a slave-trading Order member named Mas'ood who operates out of a desert caravanserai. The caravanserai is one of the game's largest open stealth arenas — use Enkidu to tag all guards before entering, then prioritize the archers on the upper walkways. Collectible Lost Books and historical artifacts are densely placed throughout Harbiyah; grab the Mysterious Shard fragments here as they contribute to a late-game upgrade.

Step 7 of 8
Confronting Al-Bahamut: Infiltrating the Round City

All three investigations converge on the identity of Al-Bahamut, revealed to be Qabiha, a powerful figure in the Abbasid court. To reach her you must penetrate the Round City — the most heavily restricted zone in the game — and ultimately enter the Palace of the Green Dome. Save a full stock of smoke bombs and poison darts for this segment, as the guards inside the palace are elite and grouped in pairs. Collectible manuscripts tied to the Isu lore are hidden throughout the palace complex and flesh out the game's Valhalla-era backstory.

Step 8 of 8
Endgame: The Serpent's Nest and the Truth About Basim

The final act strips away Basim's assumptions about his identity as the djinn Loki stirs within him. You pursue Qabiha through a network of underground tunnels beneath Baghdad in a tense, mostly-linear sequence that leans on the hidden blade over gadgets. After her assassination, the game's true ending unfolds, directly setting up the events of Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Ensure your token pouch is fully upgraded before this segment — you cannot return to free-roam after the final cutscene triggers and any missed Enigma collectibles will be locked out.

⚔️ Boss Guides

⚔️

Al-Ghul (Mas'ood al-Ya'qoob)

Weakness
Exposed in open caravanserai courtyard; falls quickly to a high-perch air assassination
Recommended Gear
Full smoke bomb stock, poison darts, Eagle Vision active before entry

Attack Patterns

Mas'ood is a Harbiyah Order target protected by multiple armed guards inside a desert caravanserai. He patrols a predictable route through the central courtyard and will shout to summon nearby guards if he spots Basim. He is not a dedicated combat boss but becomes extremely dangerous if Basim enters open combat due to the sheer number of reinforcements that arrive within seconds.

Strategy

Before entering, send Enkidu over the caravanserai to tag every guard and mark Mas'ood's patrol path. Wait for him to stop near the stable area in the northwest corner of the courtyard, which isolates him from the two closest guards. Drop from the roof beam above for a clean air assassination. If spotted, immediately throw a smoke bomb and use the hidden blade rush to finish him before retreating through the eastern gate. Using poison darts on the two archers overlooking the courtyard beforehand makes the escape trivially easy.

⚔️

Ning (Order Leader of Karkh)

Weakness
Isolated in a private auction chamber; vulnerable to disguise-assisted social stealth
Recommended Gear
Disguise token, noisemaker darts, one smoke bomb

Attack Patterns

Ning operates from within a heavily attended grand auction. She is surrounded by personal bodyguards and positioned in a VIP area that Basim cannot enter while openly armed. If combat erupts inside the auction, multiple armed buyers and guards join the fight immediately, and Basim's notoriety in Karkh spikes to maximum.

Strategy

Obtain a disguise before entering the auction — speak to a contact near the auction entrance who marks a merchant whose identity Basim can borrow. Blend into the crowd to approach Ning's alcove and use a noisemaker dart thrown past her bodyguard to lure him out of line of sight. Perform the hidden blade assassination from the bench beside her, then walk calmly out through the main entrance before anyone raises the alarm. Avoid sprinting until you are clear of the auction district.

⚔️

Wasif al-Turk (Order Leader of Sharqiyah)

Weakness
Predictable route near a fountain courtyard; isolated if subordinates are eliminated first
Recommended Gear
Throwing knives for silencing archers, sleep darts, full throwing knife pouch

Attack Patterns

Wasif is a high-ranking military commander who moves with a four-man escort through a fortified section of Sharqiyah. He wears heavy armor and will draw a sword if combat begins, fighting back with strong sweeping attacks. His escort includes two archers on elevated positions who can pin Basim with suppressing fire.

Strategy

Clear the two rooftop archers with throwing knives before approaching — this removes Wasif's best defensive asset. Wait for his patrol to reach the fountain courtyard where the escort naturally spreads out. Throw a sleep dart at the nearest guard, then drop onto Wasif for an air assassination. His armor does not protect against the hidden blade. If you prefer ground stealth, hire the Zanj rebel diversion earlier in the mission to draw the escort away before making your move.

⚔️

Qabiha / Al-Bahamut

Weakness
Stationary target during a scripted conversation; tunnel segment requires precise hidden blade timing
Recommended Gear
Maximum smoke bombs (4), poison darts, upgraded hidden blade for instant kills

Attack Patterns

Qabiha is the final major assassination target and the mastermind behind the Order's excavation of Isu artifacts. Her final confrontation takes place in the underground tunnels beneath the Round City. She does not fight directly but is protected by elite palace guards who react much faster than standard enemies and cannot be stunned easily. The narrow tunnel corridors greatly limit Basim's ability to flee or reposition.

Strategy

Prioritize upgrading the hidden blade to at least Rank 2 before this mission so that undetected kills are instant even on elite enemies. Work through the tunnel section methodically — peek around corners using Eagle Vision, use poison darts on isolated guards to thin numbers quietly, and save all smoke bombs for the final approach to Qabiha's location. Her assassination itself is a scripted sequence triggered by reaching her undetected, so patience and methodical clearing of each tunnel section is the key to a clean ending.
