Assassin's Creed Mirage: Complete Beginner's Guide
Getting Started in AC Mirage
Mirage opens in the wilderness near Baghdad with Basim as a young thief. After the prologue, you arrive in Baghdad proper with your Hidden Blade and basic toolkit. The game introduces the Notoriety system immediately — your visibility to guards. High notoriety means guards attack on sight; low notoriety means you can walk freely. Tear down wanted posters and bribe town criers to reduce notoriety.
The main mission structure gives you four major Order targets, each requiring investigation before assassination. Completing Bureau objectives (smaller missions that reveal information about targets) is required before the assassination can be attempted. Don't skip Bureau missions — they often contain the tools or information needed to reach the target undetected.
Stealth Mechanics
Enkidu: send the eagle out before every restricted area to mark all guards' positions and patrol routes. Enkidu marks stay on the minimap even after the eagle returns — use this information to plan approach routes. Benches and crowd-blend spots are marked with blue icons when in social blend mode — move between them to travel through guarded areas undetected.
Assassination chains: when you kill a guard silently, a brief window allows chaining to nearby targets without breaking stealth. Upgrade the chain to reach 3 targets simultaneously — combined with smoke bombs, this clears entire guard posts before anyone alerts.
Upgrade Priority
Smoke Bomb upgrades first — the expanded AOE smoke bomb is the most powerful tool in the game. Then: Hidden Blade damage upgrade (one-shot assassinate heavier guards), throwing knife capacity increase (more ranged silent kills), and blowpipe expanded sleep dart range. Save tool upgrades until you've tried each tool in combat to know which you use most.
Essential Tips
1. Always reduce notoriety before major targets. High notoriety means guards investigate Basim on sight — ruining infiltrations.
2. Mark all enemies with Enkidu first. Never enter a restricted area without knowing all patrol positions.
3. Use the whistling mechanic (down on D-pad) to lure single guards away from groups for isolated takedowns.
4. Bodies must be hidden. Drag bodies to haystacks or bushes — discovered bodies raise alarm levels immediately.
5. Contract boards in each district have optional assassination missions — these are the best source of crafting materials for tool upgrades.
6. The Round City's rooftop network connects all districts above street level — faster and safer for travel than street-level movement.
7. Basim can't win prolonged combat. If detected, disengage immediately using smoke bombs and the parkour system rather than fighting through guards.
First Major Target: Al-Ghul Investigation
Your first Order target requires completing three Bureau objectives to reveal Al-Ghul's location: interrogating an informant, finding documents, and tailing a contact. Use Enkidu to mark all guards in each location before entering. The informant is best approached via rooftop — drop down behind him when guards are looking away for a quiet interrogation. The document location has a haystack near the archive entrance for cover. After completing all objectives, Al-Ghul is revealed in a restricted compound — use the smoke bomb on the guards at the entrance for a clean path to the target.
