Release status
Phantom Blade Zero is scheduled for 29 October 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Windows. It was first announced for 9 September 2026 and delayed in June 2026. It is developed and published by S-Game, directed by Soulframe Liang, and has been wishlisted over 3 million times as of September 2026. It has no Metacritic score yet.
Premise
Soul, an elite assassin for The Order, is framed for the murder of its patriarch. A duel with his former blood brother Zuoshang leaves him with a fatal heart wound, and the Flesh Sculptor revives him with a tainted heart, leaving 66 days to live. The setting is the Phantom World, based on China during roughly the Ming dynasty, with steampunk, cyberpunk and dark fantasy elements. Donnie Yen is a creative consultant and plays Mó Yuán.
What has been announced about combat
Soul carries two primary Blades and two secondary Phantom Edges, which include cannons, lances, axes and hammers. Sha-chi is a resource for heavy attacks and blocking. Defences are blocking, parrying and dodging, with colour-cued brutal and killer enemy moves. Enemy AI uses formation logic so that groups act as a unit. There is a skill tree, and weapons can be upgraded, reforged and paired with accessories.
Modes and structure
Four difficulty modes are announced: Wayfarer, Pathbreaker, Hellwalker and 66 Days (permadeath at zero on a counter). New Game Plus unlocks after finishing a playthrough. The semi-open world has non-linear routes, side quests that affect the story and eight endings.
