Combat: Staff, Spells and Transformation

You fight with a staff in three stances (Smash, Pillar, Thrust) and switch between them on the fly. Focus builds from light attacks and well-timed dodges and powers heavier attacks. Spells fall into Mysticism, Alteration, Strand and Transformation categories; most cost mana and have cooldowns, while transformations use Might instead. You can only use one spell per category at a time (per Maxroll). There is no block: your defensive tools are dodging and spells such as Rock Solid.

Progression

You earn Sparks, which act as skill points, and they can be reallocated freely at a Keeper's Shrine. Will, gained from defeated enemies, is spent at vendors, on crafting weapons and armour, and on cultivating Spirits. Gear sets give extra bonuses when several pieces from the same set are equipped. The structure is mostly linear with large areas. The Fextralife wiki lists well over a hundred boss entries, split into Yaoguai Kings, Yaoguai Chiefs and other characters.

Story and World

The story follows the Destined One recovering relics across six chapters, from Black Wind Mountain to Mount Huaguo, in a setting drawn from Journey to the West. After finishing the story you can start New Game Plus or play a boss battle mode.

Platforms and Performance

The game is on PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. We have not benchmarked it, so we give no performance figures here; check current patch notes and Steam reviews for the state of your platform.
