Sons of the Forest is Endnight Games' 2024 sequel to The Forest — a first-person survival horror game set on a remote island where a billionaire's missing persons case collides with a terrifying mutant cannibal threat. You play as a crash-landed special ops soldier searching for the billionaire alongside Kelvin, an AI companion who responds to written notes and can perform dozens of autonomous tasks, and Virginia, a three-armed, three-legged mutant woman who can be befriended and equipped as a combat ally.
The survival loop is deeper than The Forest in every dimension: seasonal cycles (summer, autumn, winter, spring) change resource availability and enemy behavior; the building system supports complex multi-story log structures; and the underground cave network is more extensive and horrifying than the original. Winter forces resource management that summer doesn't — food is scarcer, warmth is required, and the nights are longer and more dangerous.
Kelvin is the game's genuine innovation. He responds to written notes with believable autonomous behavior — gather logs, build a fire, place fish traps — freeing the player to focus on exploration and construction. Solo players find him indispensable; multiplayer (up to 8 players) makes the survival experience a social cooperative sandbox.
Write notes to Kelvin and he autonomously follows instructions — gathering logs, building fires, retrieving fish. Essential for solo survival.
Four distinct seasons change resource availability, enemy behavior, and environmental conditions. Winter is significantly more dangerous than summer.
Complex log-based structures with multi-story support, defensive walls, and the original's custom build system expanded significantly.
Befriend the three-limbed mutant Virginia by approaching her non-aggressively. She becomes a powerful combat ally who can wield two weapons simultaneously.
