The prologue introduces Dani and the Libertad guerrillas before you can explore the open map. You choose Dani's gender at the start. After the prologue you can approach regional story operations in the order you prefer; Wikipedia names Madrugada, Valle de Oro and El Este as the main regions.

Supremo and Weapon Selection

Supremo backpacks are special abilities. The Exterminador (homing rockets, Armageddon Strike) is the starting backpack. The Fantasma releases poison gas, the Volta emits an EMP that disables security systems and enables vehicle hijacking, the Furioso creates a ring of fire, the Medico heals and self-revives (recommended for co-op by pcgamesn), and the Gladiador boosts speed and health. Several of these are bought from Juan or his arms dealers as you reach higher ranks. The Triador marks enemies in cover and is unlocked by completing the Yaran story mission "Triada Blessings".

Resolver weapons: the Tostador is the starting Resolver; others such as El Muro, La Clavadora, Zeusito and Discos Locos are bought from Juan as you rank up, and La Varita is a reward for completing "Triada Blessings". Resolvers add perks to your loadout; check the in-game description for what each one does.

Outposts

Scout positions with binoculars before entering an outpost, and decide whether you want a stealthy or an alarm-and-assault approach. The Volta's EMP can disable security systems.

Essential Tips

1. Spend Depleted Uranium on Resolvers. Guides note it is found at Anti-Air Cannons and used to buy Resolvers and Supremos from Juan.
2. Recruit Amigos. Animal companions help in combat and exploration.
3. Use the Volta when you need to disable security systems or hijack vehicles.
4. Try co-op if you have a friend; it is online-only and limited to two players.
5. Triada Blessings gives access to La Varita and the Triador.

Madrugada: Meet the Monteros

The first main operation in the Madrugada region, per PowerPyx, is "Meet the Monteros", given by Clara Garcia in the Costa del Mar area. It sends you to make contact with the gatekeeper Philly Barzaga, then to find Espada, Montero's daughter, at her plantation, and ends with you riding with her to meet her father. The Montero family are allied with the region's guerrillas and tobacco workers.
