Lies of P is the finest Soulslike made outside of FromSoftware — a dark Pinocchio retelling set in the Belle Époque city of Krat, where a plague of corruption has turned the city's puppet workforce into murderous machines. You play as Pinocchio, guided by the mysterious Gepetto, navigating a world that rewards lying (in dialogue choices that affect the story and your humanity meter) over telling the truth. The game's central tension between truth and deception runs through both its narrative and its design philosophy.
The combat system refines the Sekiro parry model with Fable Arts (weapon-specific special attacks activated by a dedicated button) and the Legion Arm (a prosthetic limb with swappable modules analogous to Sekiro's prosthetic tools). The Guard mechanic — blocking rather than parrying — takes chip damage and wears down your weapon's durability, encouraging active parrying over passive defense. The boss design is excellent, with two-phase fights that dramatically change patterns and several standout encounters that rival FromSoftware's best work.
Dialogue choices to lie or tell the truth affect your humanity meter, your ending, and whether you develop the ability to express human emotions.
Every weapon has a unique Fable Art special attack. Charged attacks fill the Fable Gauge; spending it unleashes powerful abilities.
Swap modules for different abilities: Puppet String (grapple hook), Fulminis (lightning), Flamberge (fire), and more.
Mix any blade with any handle to create custom weapons. A curved sword blade on a greatsword handle creates a unique stat and moveset combination.
