Kingdom Come: Deliverance II begins shortly after the events of the first game. Henry of Skalitz accompanies Sir Hans Capon on a diplomatic mission to Trosky Castle that goes violently wrong when an ambush kills most of the party. The prologue introduces all core mechanics: lockpicking, dialogue persuasion, and the expanded combat system with new Master Strikes. Henry loses his equipment and sword during the ambush—do not invest in upgrading starting gear as it will be stripped. Explore every room of Trosky Castle before escaping; an unlockable chest on the second floor contains a pair of early Sabatons that carry over past the prologue escape. The lockpick tutorial here uses the revised single-stick method rather than the dual-stick system of the first game.
Henry arrives alone and penniless in Kuttenberg (Kutna Hora), a wealthy silver-mining city serving as the game's primary hub. Kuttenberg is significantly larger than Rattay from the first game and has distinct districts: the Patrician Quarter, the Miners' District, the Market Square, and the Cathedral Precinct. Complete the "New Beginnings" quest by speaking to the innkeeper at The Black Rose inn to establish a base of operations. Find work immediately—the "A Miner's Life" side job chain provides steady Groschen income and introduces the expanded Alchemy system. Register with the local Bath House to reset all stat penalties from the prologue journey.
Henry's primary goal is locating Sir Hans Capon, who was captured during the Trosky ambush. The investigation leads through the Kuttenberg underworld, involving the Thieves Guild contact Alyssa at the Cloth Market and a network of ransoms brokered by the Kunstat family. Complete every available early dialogue investigation before paying any ransom—gathering information from three or more sources unlocks a persuasion check option that halves the required Groschen. The investigation also connects to the Hussite religious conflict subplot; accepting Friar Godwin's quest at this stage opens an alternate diplomatic route that avoids payment entirely.
The main story draws Henry into the Bohemian religious conflict between the Catholic establishment and the reformist Hussite movement. Multiple factions seek his allegiance: the Royal Bohemian loyalists, the Hussite radicals under Jan Zizka's followers, and the opportunist mercenary bands raiding both sides. Side quests aligned with each faction affect NPC attitudes and open exclusive quest chains. The "Letters to Heaven" main quest requires infiltrating a monastery; bring Stealth skills above level 8 or the alternate Persuasion route (Speech above level 10) to avoid a violent resolution. Completing any faction quest chain to its end permanently locks out the other factions' final missions.
A major story arc takes Henry deep into the Kuttenberg silver mines to investigate a conspiracy involving adulterated silver coinage that funds a mercenary army threatening the region's stability. The mine dungeon is the longest interior location in the game, featuring real historical mining infrastructure including ventilation shafts, ore processing rooms, and flooded lower levels. Acquire a miner's lamp from the equipment supplier in the Miners' District before descending—the mines are completely dark without it. The conspiracy connects directly to the main antagonist introduced in the prologue. Several investigation items in the mine are missable if you trigger the alarm; search thoroughly before engaging any guards.
The story incorporates the historical Battle of Nemecky Brod (January 1422), a major Hussite victory over a combined Catholic and mercenary force. Henry participates directly in the battle preparation phase, gathering intelligence and sabotaging the enemy supply chain in the days before the engagement. The battle itself is a large-scale combat encounter with allied NPC soldiers; focus on eliminating the enemy commanders marked with gold indicators rather than engaging every foot soldier. Completing the three pre-battle sabotage missions reduces the enemy troop count significantly and makes the battle substantially easier. Wear the best full-plate armor available before the battle—arrows are the primary cause of Henry's death during the engagement.
After Nemecky Brod, the surviving conspiracy threads converge on the identity of the true architect behind the coinage fraud and the mercenary army. This investigation phase requires combining evidence gathered across the entire game; Henry's journal tracks all unresolved threads and flags the ones needed for the final confrontation. Several endings are possible depending on which allies are still alive and whether Henry pursued the Hussite or Royal faction route. The final choice dialogue requires Speech level 12 for the highest-reward peaceful resolution; if below that threshold, prepare for a combat encounter against multiple armed opponents in an enclosed location. New Game Plus carries over Henry's stats and a fraction of his Groschen.
⚔️ Boss Guides
Ambush Leader (Prologue Boss)
Attack Patterns
The Ambush Leader is a heavily armored mercenary with a full plate chest and helm but exposed cuisses (thigh armor). He fights aggressively using a two-handed sword, alternating between overhead chops and a horizontal sweep combo. His Masterful Strike sequence attempts a charged heavy blow after a fake-left feint. He does not use clinch attacks, making his timing more predictable than mid-game enemies.
Strategy
This fight introduces the Riposte system: wait for the Masterful Strike gold-flash indicator and time the perfect block to riposte directly into his exposed thighs for three times normal damage. Two successful ripostes end this fight quickly. If Riposte timing feels difficult, use the Dodge-and-stab approach: sidestep left during his overhead animation and thrust once before he recovers. Never attack when he holds his guard high—his parry counter deals heavy damage to unarmored Henry at this stage. The fight can be skipped via a Speech check if Henry's Speech from the first game carried over or if tutorial bonuses are active.
Inquisitor Ondrej
Attack Patterns
Inquisitor Ondrej is a corrupt Church official encountered in the Cathedral Precinct storyline. He fights in full plate with a sword-and-shield combination. His attacks include a Shield Bash opener that staggers Henry if blocked with a weapon rather than dodged, a Clinch attempt every ten seconds that must be won via the Q-E rapid alternation input, and a signature Inquisitor's Judgment overhead crush that bypasses partial blocks. He calls for backup after 50% HP by blowing a whistle, spawning two crossbowmen at the cathedral entrance.
Strategy
The crossbowmen must be prioritized immediately when they appear—charge them the moment the whistle sounds and use a quick thrust-combo to kill each before they reload. Return to Ondrej afterward. The visor mechanic is the main damage path: deliberately avoid attacking for a brief period to bait Ondrej into three consecutive misses, which pops his visor open. A Thrust attack to the exposed face deals critical armor-penetrating damage equivalent to roughly 35% of his HP bar per hit. Clinch resolution requires rapid Q-E alternation; winning the Clinch enables a free headbutt dealing bonus stagger. Mace attacks can bypass his full-plate torso by targeting the arm joints, dealing 40% of normal Slash damage—useful if the visor mechanic proves too timing-dependent.
Mine Foreman Vasek (Conspiracy Boss)
Attack Patterns
Vasek is the corrupt foreman running the adulterated silver operation in the Kuttenberg mines. If approached directly, he fights with a short sword and a mining pickaxe alternating hands—an unusual dual-weapon style that makes his attack timing unpredictable. The pickaxe has a hooking motion that can disarm Henry's sword if it catches on the blade at the wrong angle. He shouts for mine guards after taking any damage, adding two axe-wielding enemies to the fight within ten seconds.
Strategy
The stealth approach is the cleanest resolution: crouch-approach from behind using the mining cart row for cover and fire a Bodkin headshot for a one-hit kill before the fight begins. For the open fight, engage Vasek first before guards arrive and use Bane poison coated on the sword blade—three hits with Bane kills Vasek in approximately fifteen seconds regardless of HP remaining, before he can consistently shout for backup. The hooking disarm from the pickaxe is avoided by releasing Henry's weapon grip during the hook animation (tapping the weapon button briefly); recovering the sword takes one second. Use a Round Shield rather than a buckler in this fight to negate the pickaxe hooks entirely through block coverage. Completing this fight and searching Vasek's office unlocks the ledger evidence item critical for the main story investigation.
Black Riders (Mounted Elite Enemies)
Attack Patterns
The Black Riders are elite mercenary cavalry encountered during multiple story interceptions on the road between Kuttenberg and Trosky. A mounted rider attacks with a Cavalry Saber Pass—a horizontal slash as the horse runs by at full speed—and a Lance Charge on approach that deals massive damage with a knockdown. They attempt to keep distance on horseback and return for pass attacks rather than stopping to melee. Two or three riders typically engage simultaneously. Dismounted, a Black Rider is a competent but standard heavy-armored opponent.
Strategy
The fastest counter to cavalry is a Halberd or War Spear—these polearms have reach that catches the horse on the pass and applies bonus damage to mounts specifically, eventually causing the horse to rear and the rider to fall. Once dismounted, the Black Rider is manageable with standard combat. If Henry is mounted himself, the jousting-style pass requires timing a Thrust on the exact frame of crossing—the combat tutorial at the Kuttenberg training yard covers this specifically. Bane arrows fired before the charge begins poison the horse, slowing subsequent passes and eventually killing the mount. Avoid standing in open road—use tree lines and fence obstacles to break the cavalry charge approach and force the rider to dismount before engaging.
Jan Zizka's Champion (Battle of Nemecky Brod)
Attack Patterns
The Hussite Champion is a named elite warrior fighting for the opposing faction at Nemecky Brod regardless of which faction Henry sides with in this encounter. He uses a two-handed war hammer with massive stamina-drain on blocked hits and a signature spin attack that hits a 360-degree area around him. His "Hussite Inspiration" shout buffs three to five nearby soldiers, increasing their attack speed. He wears full armor except below the knee, and his face is protected by a great helm with no visor weak point.
Strategy
The Potion of Resistance negates approximately 30% of the war hammer's stamina drain on block, making the fight substantially more manageable. Never block multiple consecutive hits—step back and let him overextend, then counter with a thrust to the unarmored calves. The spin attack has a brief pre-animation where he plants his feet; dodge backward the full roll distance at that moment. Shield Bash (Shield + Attack input) staggers him for one second, sufficient for a ground Stab follow-up that deals armor-penetrating damage. Silencing the Hussite Inspiration shout by interrupting him mid-cast with a thrown item or a quick attack prevents the nearby soldiers from buffing. Prioritize killing the Champion before engaging the buffed soldiers, as the buff expires in thirty seconds regardless.
