Step 1 of 9
Chapter 1: Scrambling for Answers

The game opens in a ruined alternate-universe New York City besieged by the Homunculi, biomechanical creatures created by the antagonist Singularity. You are introduced to the new Demon Slave mechanic, which lets Bayonetta simultaneously fight on her own while directing a fully controllable demon ally — start with Gomorrah for raw damage output. Complete the combat tutorials, practice switching between Bayonetta and demon control, and look for Umbran Tears of Blood hidden in environmental crevices. Your first priority is understanding Witch Time, which still triggers on a tight dodge window and remains your most important defensive skill throughout the entire game.

Step 2 of 9
Chapter 2: City on Fire

Bayonetta chases Homunculi signals deeper into Manhattan while the city collapses around her. This chapter introduces the Kaiju-scale combat segments where you pilot a fully summoned Gomorrah through the streets to destroy gigantic Homunculus towers. Collect the Halos dropped by defeated Homunculi to purchase new weapon slots and ability upgrades at the Rodin shop between chapters. A hidden Verse featuring a tough mid-tier Homunculus lurks behind a collapsed parking structure — use Witch Time and rapid Gomorrah bite-combos to finish it before the timer runs out and earn a Gold LP record.

Step 3 of 9
Chapter 3: A Sinking Feeling

Set in a flooded alternate Tokyo, this chapter follows Bayonetta through waterlogged streets while a second Bayonetta from a parallel universe appears. You face the Iridescent enemy type for the first time — crystalline creatures that require breaking their glowing core before their armor collapses. The Bewitchment challenge Break Iridescent Core Once is tied to Verse 7; focus all demon attacks on the orange core the moment it pulses. The chapter climaxes in an Arch-Iridescent Kaiju fight where blocking incoming laser beams and countering with Gomorrah's fire breath is the fastest kill method.

Step 4 of 9
Chapters 4–5: Worlds Apart & Hot Pursuit

Chapter 4 sends Bayonetta to an alternate China where she unlocks the Simoon whip weapon, ideal for crowd control against the dense Homunculus swarms. Chapter 5 features a high-speed chase sequence across a collapsing bridge and introduces the new Bayonetta variant Bayonetta Origins protagonist Cereza alongside Viola, the punk-inspired witch who plays very differently — Viola's parry replaces Witch Time, so practicing precise timed blocks against enemy telegraphs is essential. Grab Umbran Tears on both maps before progressing, as some collectibles become inaccessible after the chapter ends.

Step 5 of 9
Chapters 6–7: Off the Rails & Burning Sands

Chapter 6 stages a frantic battle aboard a runaway train, an homage to earlier entries, and is one of the best stages to farm Halos thanks to the concentrated enemy waves. Chapter 7 takes place in an Egyptian desert and unlocks Phantasmaraneae, a giant spider demon excellent for trapping bosses in silk webs while Bayonetta attacks freely. Jeanne's stealth side-missions run parallel to the main story here — these 2D action segments are brief but contain Echoes of Memory lore collectibles that explain the Singularity's origin and are worth completing before advancing.

Step 6 of 9
Chapters 8–10: A Croaking Chorus, Learning to Fly & Cover of Night

Chapter 8 introduces a swamp-biome chapter full of frog-themed Homunculi where Bayonetta unlocks Malphas, a raven demon capable of long-range projectile barrages ideal for airborne enemies. Chapter 9 moves into the sky and teaches aerial combat chains — practice Demon Masquerade transformations here, as fusing with a demon mid-combo extends juggles significantly. Chapter 10 is a night-city infiltration with reduced visibility that rewards aggressive Witch Time usage; enemy density peaks here, so equipping the Tartarus whips alongside Malphas gives the best coverage for both crowds and single targets.

Step 7 of 9
Chapters 11–12: A Familiar Dance & The Edge of Madness

Chapter 11 revisits a neon-lit city and is the chapter where the multiverse narrative reaches a tragic turn — pay close attention to cutscenes as they recontextualize earlier plot threads. Viola takes the lead in extended combat sections; her Cheshire cat demon cannot be controlled the same way as Bayonetta's demons but instead fights autonomously while Viola parries and counters. Chapter 12 escalates the Homunculus threat significantly, introducing Floccus and Fractus enemies that resist standard combos — use Demon Slave summons to break their guard layers before engaging in direct melee.

Step 8 of 9
Chapter 13: Kingdom of One

The penultimate chapter functions as a gauntlet, throwing the hardest standard enemy compositions of the game at the player in rapid succession. All three playable characters — Bayonetta, Viola, and briefly another variant — are used before the final confrontation. Stock up on Lollipops and Mega-Lollipops from the Rodin shop before entering this chapter, as there are no shops between Chapter 13 and the final boss. Focus on Verse rankings here: achieving Pure Platinum scores in late chapters permanently improves your end-game grade and unlocks the Gallery cutscene extras.

Step 9 of 9
Chapter 14: The Single Truth — Final Chapter

The climax of the game pits the player through four distinct Verses against Singularity in his various forms. Verse 1 is a Kaiju battle as Singularity Chaos where you must block laser attacks and time counter-beams precisely. Verse 2 against Singularity Balanced requires destroying a summoned Homunculus before Singularity becomes vulnerable. Verse 3 demands aggressive dodging into Witch Time to land demon combo windows. Verse 4 is Viola's solo fight — master Cheshire's autonomous attack patterns and use perfectly timed parries rather than dodges to survive Singularity's final-phase assault. Completing the chapter on any difficulty unlocks the New Game Plus Infinite Climax mode.

⚔️ Boss Guides

⚔️

Arch-Iridescent (Chapter 3)

Weakness
Orange glowing core; collapses after sustained demon-summon attacks on the core
Recommended Gear
Gomorrah Demon Slave, Scarborough Fair pistols, Witch Time dodge into core strikes

Attack Patterns

The Arch-Iridescent is a massive crystalline Kaiju that fires sustained laser beams from its chest core, sweeps the arena with wide claw slashes, and periodically creates shockwaves by slamming the ground. Its outer armor reflects all damage until the inner orange core is exposed, which only occurs after the creature charges up a beam attack. The core briefly pulses outward during this charge window.

Strategy

The key is patience: wait for the beam charge animation, then immediately direct Gomorrah via Demon Slave to bite the exposed core. Bayonetta herself should simultaneously attack the core with Scarborough Fair shots to stack damage. Dodge the beam sweep to trigger Witch Time, then re-engage the core during the slow-motion window. After two core breaks the Arch-Iridescent staggers, allowing a fully summoned Gomorrah finisher to end the fight. Never waste Demon Slave time attacking the armored exterior.

⚔️

Kraken (Chapter 6 boss)

Weakness
Glowing tentacle joints; weak to sustained piercing weapon attacks at close range
Recommended Gear
Simoon whip for long range, Gomorrah for tentacle grabs, Umbran Climax for burst damage

Attack Patterns

The Kraken-type Homunculus boss attacks with four independent tentacles that sweep, slam, and pierce in alternating sequences. It will attempt to grab Bayonetta with a coiling lunge that deals heavy damage if not dodged precisely. The central body is invulnerable until all exposed tentacle joints are destroyed. It periodically submerges and re-emerges from a different corner of the arena.

Strategy

Focus one tentacle at a time — use the Simoon whip's extended range to hit the glowing joint on each limb from a safe distance. When a tentacle slams down, the joint is briefly stationary, giving a clean Gomorrah bite opportunity via Demon Slave. Activate Umbran Climax when two tentacles are destroyed to rapidly clear the remaining two and expose the central body. During the submersion phase, reposition to the arena center so you have escape routes in all directions for the re-emergence slam.

⚔️

Rodin (Optional Boss, Alfheim reward)

Weakness
Exhausting his Rodin Bar requires relentless high-damage combos with no extended downtime
Recommended Gear
Fastest weapon combo (Scarlet Parmarea), multiple Umbran Climax charges stocked, Lollipop supply

Attack Patterns

Father Rodin is the game's most demanding optional boss. He uses blinding speed to close distance instantly, fires cascading angelic projectile bursts, and delivers multi-hit palm strikes that break guard rapidly. His attacks chain unpredictably between melee and ranged, punishing passive players severely. He also uses brief invincibility frames after each major attack string.

Strategy

Aggression is mandatory — the Rodin Bar (his stamina gauge) only depletes when he is taking damage, so extend your combos as long as possible using Demon Masquerade cancels to chain moves. Use Umbran Climax the moment it charges rather than saving it. Witch Time is your best tool here: bait his palm strike rush, dodge at the last possible frame, then unload the highest-damage Demon Slave during the slow window. Bring five Mega-Lollipops minimum; this fight is designed to kill unprepared players.

⚔️

Singularity Chaos (Chapter 14, Verse 1)

Weakness
Counter-beam timing during his laser charge; Kaiju form vulnerable to precisely timed Gomorrah counters
Recommended Gear
Gomorrah Demon Slave at maximum level, dodge into counter-beam input practiced in prior chapters

Attack Patterns

In his first form, Singularity Chaos fights as an enormous Kaiju matching Bayonetta's summoned demon in scale. He fires sustained parallel laser beams, creates gravitational slam waves, and attempts to overpower with sheer reach. The laser attacks have a visible charge-up glow that serves as the counter window.

Strategy

Block incoming beam attacks with Gomorrah's guard input, then immediately fire back with the stored laser counter. Time the counter release to the peak of Singularity's beam intensity for maximum damage. Between beam exchanges, use Gomorrah's claw combos on Singularity's torso. Do not overcommit to long combos — always reserve one dodge for the sudden gravitational shockwave that he throws out after every three melee hits he receives.

⚔️

Singularity Balanced (Chapter 14, Verse 2)

Weakness
Vulnerable only after his summoned Homunculus shield is destroyed
Recommended Gear
Phantasmaraneae for web-trapping the Homunculus, Bayonetta's fastest close-range weapon for burst window

Attack Patterns

Singularity Balanced surrounds himself with a large Homunculus that absorbs all incoming damage directed at Singularity himself. He attacks by directing this shield-creature to charge, slam, and project energy bursts while he remains at the arena perimeter charging energy. If the Homunculus is not destroyed quickly, Singularity fires a devastating screen-wide beam from the perimeter.

Strategy

Immediately focus all damage on the Homunculus using Phantasmaraneae's web trap to immobilize it, then switch to Bayonetta's most damaging melee combo. When the Homunculus is destroyed, Singularity Balanced briefly staggers — activate Umbran Climax immediately and direct Demon Slave attacks at his core. If you do not kill him during this window, the shield Homunculus respawns. Rotate your Kameas to ensure Demon Slave is available when the window opens.

⚔️

Singularity (Chapter 14, Verse 3 & 4)

Weakness
Verse 3: Witch Time openings after telegraphed energy bursts; Verse 4 as Viola: parry timing replaces dodging
Recommended Gear
Verse 3: Bayonetta with Madama Butterfly Demon Masquerade; Verse 4: Viola with Cheshire, focus on parry rhythm

Attack Patterns

In Verse 3, Singularity becomes erratic: rapid teleportation, wide energy burst waves, and close-range slam combos replace the Kaiju-scale attacks. He is faster and less telegraphed than his prior forms. In Verse 4, as Viola faces the final phase, Singularity shifts to exploiting gaps in Cheshire's autonomous attack patterns and punishes mistimed parries with instant-kill grabs.

Strategy

Verse 3: focus entirely on dodging energy bursts at the last possible frame to trigger Witch Time, then activate Demon Masquerade with Madama Butterfly to deliver massive fist combos during the slow window. Do not chase — let Singularity come to you. Verse 4: as Viola, parry every strike rather than dodging, because Viola's parry triggers her version of Witch Time and simultaneously charges Cheshire. Once Cheshire is fully charged, Viola temporarily becomes far more powerful — unload every attack in this window to finish the fight.
