Remnant 2 Review
Our Verdict
Remnant 2 delivers exceptional boss design and satisfying Archetype builds in a cooperative package that rewards exploration and repeat playthroughs.
Combat: Shooter Souls
Third-person shooting with Souls-like stamina and dodge mechanics creates a distinctive feel. The aiming is precise; the dodge is generous; the boss patterns are read, not brute-forced. Archetypes add class-based abilities that change approach: Handler sends their dog in to distract bosses; Gunslinger reloads instantly and deals sustained DPS; Challenger tanks in close range. The dual-Archetype system (equip a secondary from mid-game) allows hybrid approaches that create the most interesting character expressions.
Boss Design
The bosses are Remnant 2's finest element. Each is a creative set-piece with distinct attack patterns and environmental mechanics. Many bosses have randomized variants — discovering a new form of a boss you've faced before is one of the game's consistent pleasures. Nightmare and Apocalypse difficulties dramatically increase challenge for players who master Normal.
Gameplay and World
Procedural generation gives each run a distinct feel in area layout and item availability. The four main worlds (Earth, Yaesha, Losomn, N'Erud) each have distinct aesthetics and enemy types. Hidden NPCs and event triggers reward thorough exploration — many players miss significant quest content on their first run.
Verdict
Essential for co-op action fans. Remnant 2's boss design and Archetype system create hundreds of hours of replayable content.
