Diablo IV Review
Our Verdict
Diablo IV is a magnificent base game with an exceptional story that has grown into one of gaming's best live-service ARPGs through steady seasonal updates.
Combat: Visceral and Deep
The visceral feedback of Diablo IV's combat — slaying hordes, watching demon corpses spray blood, seeing explosive critical hits clear entire rooms — delivers the franchise's core sensation in its most polished form. Each class feels dramatically different: a Necromancer building an army of skeletal servants plays nothing like a Barbarian whirling with four weapons simultaneously. The skill system's flexibility and Paragon Board depth give players virtually unlimited optimization paths.
Gameplay and Endgame
The endgame was Diablo IV's launch weakness; seasonal updates have substantially addressed it. Torment difficulty tiers, Pit dungeons, Nightmare Sigils, and seasonal mechanics provide structured progression loops for dedicated players. The Paragon Board allows multi-hundred-hour character optimization. Seasonal content ensures the experience meaningfully refreshes every three months.
Story and World
Lilith's story is Diablo's best-told narrative — the opening cinematic alone is one of gaming's greatest. The five acts follow a satisfying arc across Sanctuary's varied regions. Voice acting and cutscene quality are exceptional. The shared world elements (seeing other players in towns, joining world events spontaneously) add subtle community texture without disrupting the solo experience.
Graphics and Performance
Technically impressive — the dark gothic aesthetic is realized with exceptional lighting, creature design, and environmental detail. Performance on PC and consoles is smooth and stable. The art direction is Diablo's darkest and most striking.
Verdict
Diablo IV has grown into a top-tier ARPG. Buy it on sale, dive into the current season, and enjoy one of the genre's most polished experiences.
