Astro Bot Review
Our Verdict
Astro Bot is the platformer of its generation — endlessly inventive, technically flawless, and overflowing with joy and PlayStation love.
Gameplay and Controls
Astro Bot is a masterclass in 3D platforming. The controls are pixel-precise, the jump and hover feel perfect, and combat is simple but satisfying. What elevates it is the relentless inventiveness: no two levels play the same, and the constant stream of new gadgets keeps every stage fresh. It never repeats an idea long enough to grow stale.
The DualSense Magic
No game uses the DualSense better. You feel the crunch of glass, the tension of a spring, the patter of rain — all through haptics and adaptive triggers that are integral to gameplay rather than gimmicks. It is the definitive demonstration of what the controller can do.
Charm and PlayStation History
The game is a love letter to PlayStation. Hundreds of cameo bots dressed as Kratos, Aloy, Nathan Drake, and dozens more dot the levels, and discovering each one is a delight for longtime fans. The presentation is bright, witty, and bursting with personality.
Content and Challenge
The main campaign runs a tight 12-15 hours, with optional challenge levels and 100% completion hunts extending it further. The difficulty is gentle in the main path but the bonus stages provide real platforming tests. The only knock is that completionists may want even more.
Verdict
Astro Bot is essential PS5 ownership. It is the best 3D platformer in years, a technical showcase, and pure unfiltered joy from start to finish.
